On April 22-23, the world’s best juniors will collide at Seaside Reef in Cardiff, CA for the Rob Machado Seaside Pro Junior presented by Hurley,Reef, and Whole Foods Market. As the only Pro Junior event in San Diego for the year, the two-day long contest will give competitors a much-needed opportunity to garner enough points to break on to the World Junior Tour while also raising money for charity.
One of the most dynamic and varied waves in San Diego County, the venue at Seaside will offer an open canvas for the competitors to display their revolutionary breed of surfing.
“The first pro contest I ever surfed in was at Seaside and I thought it would be good for the kids to bring one back. Seaside is a great break to showcase the talent that will be surfing in the event,” said Machado. “The wave has it all. There’s sort of a suck-out section where you drop in, and then it sort of flattens out and is good for cutbacks, and the end section is really good for airs. So the wave has a lot of variety and I think it’s gonna be great to see a lot of the kids out there on such a versatile wave.
Held in conjunction with the Pro Junior event, Rob will also be hosting his annual charity golf tournament. A lighthearted game of golf if there ever was one, this year’s tournament will include a super hero theme with all of the proceeds going to benefit the Rob Machado Foundation and Cardiff SEA.
“The golf event is a fun way for me to raise funding for Cardiff SEA. The organization has been a great collaborator and always puts the funds we raise to good use,” said Machado. “Our goal in the end is to be able to help children understand their contribution towards a healthy Earth while showing surrounding communities and schools what’s possible through curriculum and programs that inspire our youth.”
